🐞 Super Easy Pebble Ladybirds Craft for Kids

Looking for a super easy kids’ craft that’s fun, colourful and doesn’t need lots of complicated materials? Then these adorable pebble ladybirds are perfect!

With just a pebble, some paint and a few simple craft supplies, children can turn an ordinary stone into a cute little ladybird. This is a great craft for a rainy afternoon, a school holiday activity or even a fun project after a nature walk.

The best part? Every ladybird can be completely unique! Try different sizes of pebbles, add lots of spots or give your ladybirds different expressions and personalities.

🛍️ What You’ll Need

For each pebble ladybird, you’ll need:

  • 🪨 A pebble – smooth, rounded pebbles work best

  • 🎨 Paint – red, black and any other colours you fancy

  • 🖌️ A paintbrush

  • 👀 Googley eyes – optional, as you can paint the eyes on instead

  • ✨ Craft glue – if you are not using stick on googley eyes

Need some of your craft supplies? Don’t worry! You can find everything you need right here on our website! Just use the search button above!

Tip: Make sure your pebble is clean and dry before you start painting. If you have collected it outside, give it a quick wash and let it dry completely first.

🐞 How to Make Your Pebble Ladybird

Step 1: Get Your Craft Materials Together

First things first — get everything you need ready!

Find your pebble, paint, paintbrush and googley eyes. Remember, googley eyes are completely optional. If you don't have any, you can simply paint your ladybird's eyes instead.

It’s also a good idea to protect your table with some newspaper or a craft mat before you begin.

Step 2: Paint Your Pebble

Now for the fun part — painting!

Start by painting your pebble red to create your ladybird's body. You can paint the whole pebble red and let it dry before adding the details.

Once the red paint is dry, use black paint to add your ladybird's head, a line down the middle of its back and some lovely black spots.

Don't worry about making your spots perfectly round or evenly spaced — that's part of the fun!

Top tip: Depending on your paint and pebble, you may need more than one coat to get a nice, bright colour. Make sure each coat is dry before adding another.

Step 3: Add the Eyes

Once all your paint is completely dry, it's time to give your ladybird some eyes!

If you're using googley eyes, simply stick two onto the black head using a little craft glue.

Don't have googley eyes? No problem! You can paint two cute eyes directly onto your pebble instead.

You could even give your ladybird big eyes, tiny eyes or a funny expression. Let your imagination take over!

Step 4: Let It Dry

Now comes the hardest part — waiting!

Leave your finished ladybird somewhere safe until all of the paint and glue is completely dry.

Why not make another one while you wait? Before long, you'll have a whole family of colourful pebble ladybirds!

Step 5: Display Your Ladybird!

Your pebble ladybird is finished! 🎉

Now it's time to display it to the world.

You could put your ladybird on a windowsill, display it in your bedroom, add it to your garden or create a whole collection of painted pebble bugs.

Why stop at one? Try making red, pink, purple, yellow or rainbow ladybirds and see how many different little pebble friends you can create!

❤️ Get Creative!

The wonderful thing about pebble crafts is that there are no rules. Your ladybirds don't have to look exactly the same — in fact, they're even more special when they don't!

Try experimenting with:

  • Different coloured ladybirds

  • Big and small pebbles

  • Different numbers of spots

  • Funny faces and expressions

  • Painted eyes instead of googly eyes
